Robot surgeons to improve recovery
Robotic-assisted surgery means patients can undergo keyhole instead of open surgery, which research shows leads to less time in hospital, less blood loss and fewer infections. There are around 60 surgical robots in NHS hospitals. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which has been using a Da Vinci robot for a year, said it noticed a “significant reduction in patient recovery times and complications”. Cambridgebased firm CMR Surgical has developed a cheaper machine.
