Treating mental health of patients with chronic physical conditions
More than 16million people in England have a long-term physical health condition, such as diabetes, heart disease or lung disease, and one in three of these will also experience mental health problems. A pilot scheme in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough found automatically treating people with chronic physical health issues for their mental health, too, cut hospital admissions by 75per cent and reduced A&E visits by two thirds, saving £200,000.
