Arm-wrestler breaks her arm in festival contest

-

A young farmer broke her arm competing in an all-female armwrestling match.

The 20-year-old woman was taking part in the test of strength at a Young Farmers festival in Cumbria.

The incident was so shocking that her opponent fainted after realising what had happened.

Andrew Dickinson, a partner in Kentdale First Aid who was on hand to provide medical assistance, told the BBC that the woman was given pain relief until an ambulance arrived.

He said: “It was a bad break and she was in a lot of pain.

“The other girl realised she had broken her arm and fainted. The team were straight on to her. She was fine.”

The 20-year-old received treatment at Cumbria Infirmary in Carlisle.

The all-female arm-wrestling competition was part of the Young Farmers Club Northern District Field Day in Irthington on Saturday.

Around 800 young farmers from 15 clubs in north and west Cumbria attended the festival, whose attractions included competitions in tractor driving, bale stacking, sheep shearing and flower arranging.
