Burundi suspicious of France’s donkey work
Burundi’s agriculture ministry has ordered the quarantine of 10 donkeys donated to a village through French funding, sparking a debate over the subliminal message behind the gift.
The donkeys, bought in Tanzania, were given to villagers in Gitega province, as part of a project by a local NGO to help transport agricultural products, water or wood.
However, Gabby Bugaga, spokesman for the Senate president, wrote on Twitter that the French were “taking us for donkeys”.
