Abramovich scraps Chelsea’s new stadium
Roman Abramovich has cancelled plans for Chelsea FC’S £1billion new stadium and withdrawn his application for an investor visa to Britain. The Russian oligarch has owned Chelsea for 15 years, but questions are being raised about his future after he was forced to miss the FA Cup final because of a delay to his visa renewal. A Chelsea statement put the stadium decision down to an “unfavourable investment climate”.
A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in an exclusive west London street.
The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was discovered with multiple stab wounds in Cathcart Road, Chelsea, where the average property is worth £1.6million, on Wednesday night.
The man, who residents said was a father of three, died at the scene. The Metropolitan Police said his next of kin had been informed, but formal identification was yet to take place.
Scotland Yard has launched a murder investigation. No arrests have been made and it is not yet clear what happened in the moments leading up to the attack.
