Cut out for the job
Police have been condemned for responding to complaints about speeding in a city centre street by setting up a cardboard officer. The cut-out yellowjacketed policeman has been chained to a lamppost in Eglinton Crescent, in the upmarket west end of Edinburgh, after residents complained motorists were breaking the 20mph limit. But drivers have quickly got used to the ruse. The cut-out doesn’t even do a 24-hour shift – residents say it is removed at night and put back each morning.
