When that photograph of Aidan Turner scything topless in Poldark ended up dominating the national conversation for weeks, the actor took issue with the BBC and declared “it’s not a stripper show”. Three years on, and the promotional pictures for the latest series of the drama are in something of a similar vein, as Turner, wearing flesh-coloured breeches, emerges from the sea in the manner of Daniel Craig in the James Bond film Casino Royale.
