HM Bark Endeavour, a full-scale replica of Captain Cook’s ship, is towed from Middlesbrough to its permanent home in Whitby, where the original vessel was built in 1764. Cook commanded the ship when he charted New Zealand and discovered the eastern coast of Australia. The full-scale replica will be moored in the Yorkshire seaside town before opening to visitors on July 1, in time for next year’s celebrations marking 250 years since the start of the explorer’s first expedition to the South Pacific.
