A vital part of policing
sir – Home Secretary Sajid Javid says he is going to improve the police force (report, May 24) – yet he fails to mention immigration officers, who need an increase in numbers.
These people are the ones who have to interrogate newcomers to ascertain whether they are genuine. They are often called out by the police when suspicious persons are stopped, and accompany police to arrest illegal immigrants. They are part of the system of policing and order, and should not be forgotten. Chris Smith
