Speaker off the hook
SIR – It cannot be right that the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, is the person who decides whether or not there should be an investigation into his own behaviour (report, June 5).
Everyone in a position of authority needs to have their actions scrutinised and inspected from time to time, and particularly when there have been allegations of improper behaviour and foul language. David Kidd

SIR – It doesn’t seem to matter what Mr Bercow says; he never gets held to account.
This suggests that he must either be very popular or very frightening.
