England’s winning World Cup send-off

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck gave England victory in their final World Cup warm-up match over Costa Rica. The Manchester United striker’s 20-yard shot gave England the lead and a late header from substitute Welbeck rounded off the victory, played in something of a carnival atmosphere at Elland Road. England made 10 changes from their friendly against Nigeria last weekend, giving debuts to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-arnold at right back and the Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, who came on in the second half.
