Homes (and budgie) shaken by earthquake

-

An earthquake felt across northern and eastern England caused homes to shake up to 60 miles away, residents said.

The 3.9-magnitude tremor struck on Saturday at around 11.15pm, with the epicentre in Grimsby at a depth of 11 miles, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said. Witnesses reported the tremor up to 60 miles away with the impact felt in Scunthorpe, across the Humber in Hull, and as far as West and East Yorkshire.

Earthquakes of this nature are relatively common, according to the BGS, happening about every two years.

There were no reports of injuries although the Grimsby Telegraph quoted one resident saying: “It made my budgie fall off its perch.”
