Poldark actor refuses to eat on set to maintain physique

 Captain Ross Poldark set hearts racing with a shirtless appearance in a field in August 2016, and made headlines again when he emerged in a swimming scene in promotional photos for the new series.

But star Aidan Turner has revealed the secret to his toned physique: he refuses to eat until 7pm while filming because he enjoys feeling hungry on set.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Turner said that while filming the fourth series he would fast for the entire day and eat as much as he wanted at night. “I don’t only choose roles that require me to be in a certain kind of shape,” he said. “For Poldark, it had to be and it is what it is.”

Turner also revealed that while maintaining muscles “isn’t an obsession”, he does go to the gym at least once per day.

Asked if he felt hunger pangs after working all day, he said: “I quite like them. It’s good for the job. It keeps you in it, you know?”

The first episode of the new series of Poldark aired last night and continues on Sunday June 17 at 9pm on BBC One.
