Diet instead of tests for IBS

-

In Somerset, doctors piloted a scheme that avoids patients with suspected irritable bowel syndrome having expensive tests. Instead they follow a strict diet, removing certain types of carbohydrates and then reintroducing them to identify foods that trigger symptoms. Trials found up to three quarters of patients got their symptoms under control using the diet, which has been adopted by 15 trusts in the UK.
