Electronic patient tags that spot empty beds

-

Some NHS hospitals are using electronic patient tags instead of traditional plastic wristbands. They map patients’ locations and can alert staff when a bed becomes free or a patient is being moved. Countess of Chester Hospital is piloting a system using 4,000 infra-red sensors across beds and on doorways, which has helped almost halve the time between a patient being discharged and the bed being ready for a new arrival.
