Jeremy Vine to take on job at BBC rival

-

 The BBC’S Jeremy Vine is to present a daily current affairs programme on Channel 5 in addition to his Radio 2 show, it has been announced.

He will replace Matthew Wright, who has hosted The Wright Stuff for 18 years.

The yet-to-be named show will begin in September and Vine will be on air from 9.30am to 11.15am, before dashing across London by motorbike taxi to present his Radio 2 show at midday. He will go head-to-head with the Victoria Derbyshire show on BBC Two. Vine was one of the BBC’S highest-paid presenters last year, earning £700,000-£749,999 for his radio show plus television jobs including Crimewatch, Points of View, Eggheads and elections. The BBC is understood to be relaxed about letting its star names work for a rival, in return for a wage cut, as part of solving the gender pay gap row.
