Hong Kong activist jailed for six years after protests
Hong Kong’s leading independence activist was yesterday jailed for six years for his involvement in the city’s worst protest violence in decades.
Edward Leung was convicted in May of rioting during the 2016 running battles with police, when demonstrators hurled bricks and set rubbish alight in the commercial district of Mong Kok.
He was also sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to a separate charge of assaulting a police officer.
