Cow that strayed into EU will not be killed

-

A cow that was at risk of being put down after straying over the EU border will be allowed to live.

Penka had wandered from its farm in Bulgaria into Serbia and back again. Livestock cannot be brought into the EU without the correct permits, so it faced quarantine and a possible death sentence. A petition to save Penka garnered 30,000 signatories, including Sir Paul Mccartney.

“Laboratory analyses are negative for all the tested diseases,” said Bulgaria’s food safety agency yesterday. “It will not be killed.”
