Fences are answer to reintroducing wolves
High electric fences could allow grey wolves to be safely reintroduced to the Scottish Highlands, experts claim.
Within a fenced reserve, wolf packs could be large enough to keep red deer numbers down without posing a threat to residents, farmers and workers, research published in the journal Restoration Ecology suggests.
Scientists envisage wolf populations of around 80 wolves per 1,000 sq km of land. Dr Christopher Sandom, the lead researcher from the University of Sussex, said: “A fenced reserve could be a fantastic opportunity to return large predators to Britain.”
