Royal wedding cellist wins Classic Brit award
Sheku Kanneh-mason, the teenage cellist who impressed audiences with his performance at the wedding of the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, last night won male artist of the year at the 2018 Classic Brit Awards.
The 19-year-old paid tribute to his parents as he accepted his award, saying they “inspire me every day”.
Kanneh-mason, who performed Schubert’s Ave Maria, Fauré’s Après un rêve and Maria Theresia von Paradis’s Sicilienne at the wedding last month, said the opportunity to play in front of the world changed his life. As a result of his exposure, his album is the bestselling classical album of the year.
