Speaker’s ‘woman problem’ Bercow accused of sexism

A minister has attacked John Bercow for his “sexist” treatment of women after he told her to refrain from “dilation” in the House of Commons.

Claire Perry, the energy minister, wrote to the Commons Speaker accusing him of having a “woman problem” and complaining of his “overly aggressive” comments to her. The letter said: “You used a tone and language to admonish me for giving over-long answers that seemed both overly aggressive and particularly sexist.”

In reply, Mr Bercow wrote: “While, respectfully, I do not accept the points made, perhaps it would be nice to meet for a ‘clear the air’ cup of tea as soon as possible?”
