Black Union president
SIR – In your report (“Oxbridge diversity failures are ‘staggering’”, June 6) you describe the universities minister, Sam Gyimah, as the first black president of the Oxford Union, having been elected in 1997.
In fact Roy Dickson of Exeter College, a black American, was elected President for Trinity term in 1956 – two decades before Mr Gyimah was born. I was a member of the Union standing committee at the time. Patrick Chambers
