Body-language drone that targets terrorists in crowd

-

 A drone that can spot terrorists in crowds has been invented by Cambridge scientists.

The technology can pick out violent individuals or suspicious packages in stadiums and streets.

The University of Cambridge found a simple £150 drone had the potential to catch people leaving bags or carrying weapons in public areas.

The scientists say they are also close to being able to pick out known suspects by the way they walk. And an algorithm using “deep learning” may be able to predict violent situations by pairing people’s postures to those kept on file that are designated as violent.

In their paper, Eye in the Sky, researchers from the UK and India say the system can process data from drones for real-time analysis.

Amarjot Singh, lead researcher, said the technology could prevent terror attacks but warned it could also be manipulated maliciously “by an authoritarian government”.
