Women Don’ts
DON’T FORGET ESSENTIALS
It is vital to pack an emergency kit that includes gel pads and plasters for tired feet, hair slides for keeping your ‘do’ and hat in place, shine papers for a quick beauty touch-up, an umbrella (above right) and even a pair of flats for when your feet just can’t take any more.
DON’T TRY TO BE SEXY
Royal Ascot is not the environment for bandage dresses, cut-outs, short hemlines or plunging necklines. “You want a dress that looks smart, wellfitted and elegant,” agrees Redman. “That is what the races should be about.”
DON’T OVERACCESSORISE
Less is more when aiming for timeless sophistication. “It’s good to keep it fairly simple,” says Redman. “Not too much detail.” This goes for embellishment as well as jewellery and she adds that when it comes to colour, being understated is key: “Pretty, feminine colours look nice in the
sunshine.”
