Explaining toad in the hole to doubtful diners

-

SIR – Renaming a pudding “spotted Richard” to avoid embarrassment (report, June 15)? For goodness’ sake, get a life.

My husband is an agent for a Japanese company, and when he was entertaining a group of visitors we took them to a local restaurant where we knew spotted dick and toad in the hole were on the menu.

They were incredulous at first but saw the joke after we explained, and they didn’t stop laughing for the rest of the day.
