King’s brother-in-law starts six-year jail term
The brother-in-law of Spain’s king surrendered to the authorities yesterday to serve nearly six years in prison for crimes including tax fraud and embezzlement, a spokesman said.
Iñaki Urdangarin signed himself into the Brieva jail in Avila after being given a five-day deadline last Tuesday to appear at a prison of his choosing for the five-year 10-month sentence.
The 162-cell prison was chosen for its proximity to Madrid so his wife, Princess Cristina, the sister of King Felipe VI, could visit more easily, newspaper El Pais reported.
