Students protest over ‘impossible’ French exam

- By Camilla Turner EDUCATION EDITOR

AN exam board has apologised after students complained about an “appalling” French A-level exam.

Pupils said that they were reduced to guessing answers after it was impossible for them to answer questions during the listening part of the test.

Others accused Eduqas, a subsidiary of the exam board WJEC, which offers exams in England, of harming their university prospects.

Ofqual, the exam regulator, was urged to carry out an urgent review into what went wrong with the exam, which was taken by 835 candidates.

Students took to social media to vent their anger about the exam. Mark Champness wrote: “Appalling travesty that has affected thousands of lives.”

Eduqas admitted that there was an “issue” with the recordings in both French and Spanish exams and said that they will “ensure that no candidate is disadvantaged”.
