Pope’s bone found in waste gifted to Church
A POPE’S bone found on a rubbish tip is to go on display after a Catholic church decided it was real.
An environmental waste clearance company found the bone of apostle Pope St Clement in central London, and launched an appeal to find it a final resting place.
The remains, which are almost 2,000 years old, have now been gifted to Westminster Cathedral. Envirowaste found the bone in a red and gold, wax-sealed case, during a routine collection last year, but workers did not realise what they had until it was appraised several days later.
The bone was yesterday handed over to Archbishop George Stack, in the Lady Chapel. Known as St Clement of Rome, he is considered to be the fourth Pope from AD92 to 101.
