The Windrush Poles
SIR – The Government has officially declared June 22 to be Windrush Day to honour the enormous contribution of those who stepped ashore at Tilbury Docks 70 years ago.
There were 66 Polish refugees from the Second World War among them, including my mother-in-law, whose menfolk had fought with the Allies. They were joined by 120,000 compatriots who arrived on other ships. They too made a massive contribution to Britain, but everyone seems to have forgotten about them.
