Formula milk deals
SIR – If John Rowlands (Letters, June 16) were to consider the horrendous past levels of malnutrition, and even death, in underdeveloped Third World countries, he might be more tolerant of the World Health Organisation’s strictures on promoting formula milk.
“Three for two” offers may seem harmless in Harpenden, but in some of the poorest countries of the world, women were tempted by the offers of the formula giants and then were reduced to diluting the formula, which they could no longer afford and certainly could not manage to sterilise.
The ban on promotion is to safeguard the most vulnerable.
