Charity apologises over medicines for sex claim

-

One of the world’s leading charities has apologised after claims that staff said it was possible to barter medication for sex in Africa.

Medecins Sans Frontieres said it was “sorry for any instances where people have been subjected to harassment, abuse or otherwise mistreated and/or felt that it was not adequately dealt with”.

Former aid workers told the BBC’S Victoria Derbyshire Show that the use of local prostitutes was widespread among logistical staff at MSF.

In one instance, a senior aid worker had said it was possible to barter medication for sex with girls who had lost their parents to Ebola, according to a whistleblower.

The BBC said it could not substantiate this claim.
