Elk seen in Denmark for first time in 19 years

-

A wild elk has been spotted in Denmark, the first such sighting in the country since 1999.

The animal was photographed by a resident near Helsinge, a town on the island of Zealand, last week.

The Nature Agency later confirmed that the animal was a female aged two.

It is thought the elk could have swum across the Øresund strait that separates Zealand from Sweden. Over the past two decades the area has had several unconfirmed elk sightings.
