Return the Rill

SIR – I read with sadness about the closure of the Rill near Tower Bridge (report, June 21). I worked in the area when it was created and could see the enjoyment it gave to the public – particularly schoolchildren. It was a simple but beautiful feature.

It would be cheaper, surely, to encourage the public to look where they are going than to brick in this wonderful piece of art. Return the Rill and make it a phone-free zone. Jennifer Edwards
