French priest filmed slapping baby at baptism

A French Catholic priest was suspended yesterday after a video of him smacking a crying baby during a baptism ceremony went viral.

In the footage, gasps can be heard when the 89-year-old priest orders the infant he is holding to “be quiet” and sharply slaps his cheek.

The diocese of Meaux said the priest would no longer be leading baptisms nor holding mass until further notice.
