Thousand Uber drivers accused of serious crimes

-

♦ Uber has secretly investigated more than 2,500 of its drivers in London for criminal offences, including sexual assaults, stalking and dangerous driving.

According to documents handed to regulators, the taxi firm admitted that 1,148 drivers in London had been accused of serious crimes, and that it had investigated an additional 1,402 who had repeatedly been accused of lower-level offences, including discriminatory remarks and inappropriate conduct to passengers.

The disclosures, in The Sunday Times, come as Uber appeals against its ban from operating in the capital. Its licence to work in London was revoked last year after police found that they had failed to report a string of sex attacks by drivers.
