Harry the bearded groom helps to fuel Britain’s £5m facial hair renaissance
PRINCE Harry has been crediting with helping to inspire a beard renaissance, with sales of facial hair care products up by 226 per cent in three years.
Britain’s men splashed out almost £5million on beard care products over the past year alone, a report reveals.
And the trend has been given a boost by the Duke of Sussex’s decision to keep his facial hair for his wedding.
“Beards are growing, literally,” said Chloe Humphrey-page of consumer firm IRI, which produced the report.
“If you thought the beardy trend was going away, then think again.
“It’s never been more popular and the royal wedding will only add to this popularity. Prince Harry’s decision to marry in uniform with a beard was widely reported and shows even the Royal family are embracing the beard in all its glory.
“Notably, beards are much neater, well kept and are worn with pride – and this explains the increase in sales for products like beard oils. Manufacturers and retailers are embracing this and focusing on the benefits around improving texture, appearance and moisture.”
While beard care spending is up, sales of disposable razors have fallen and spending on men’s grooming overall is down nine per cent, according to the report.
Some of the decline in spending in the sector has been attributed to men favouring combination packs and “system” razors, which major manufacturers like Gillette have been focusing on in recent years.
