Meningitis jab ‘could have saved student’

-

♦a student died from meningitis after her school and GP failed to give her a vaccination that could have saved her, an inquest heard.

Lauren Sandell, 18, died at home in Woodford Green, east London, after doctors failed to follow guidance making patients aware of the dangerous strain of meningitis W.

The inquest previously heard that when Lauren was at school, the jab had only been offered to children in the younger years, leaving the upper three year groups without protection.

Recording a narrative verdict, Walthamstow coroner Nadia Persaud, said if the Bournemouth University student had received the jab “it’s likely her death on Oct 2 would have been avoided”.
