What smart meters do

SIR – I keep hearing advertisements on the radio about how smart meters will save money and that, if we all had one, we would save enough energy to light up the North of England.

I would call this mis-selling. The meters do no such thing: it is down to whether we change our energy use. I already know how much I spend on energy, and a smart meter will not make an iota of a difference to my consumption. John Bergin
