Motorway signs could drive down fuel prices
Motorists may soon be able to avoid surprise rip-off petrol prices at motorway service stations under a government crackdown.
Signs showing the cost of fuel at upcoming service stations could be introduced to encourage competition and drive down prices in a scheme supported by Highways England.
At present filling up an average car can cost as much as £10 more on the motorway than at other pumps.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling recently warned watchdogs that “exploitative” prices at service stations encouraged motorists to drive with dangerously low tanks.
