Man murdered boss after first day at work

A Romanian criminal on the run in Britain killed his boss who took pity on him on his first day at work.

Andrew Ilie, 22, had started a job preparing dishes and cleaning a pizza takeaway in Birmingham in 2015 when he knifed Masoud Esmailian.

After work Mr Esmailian, 46, let him stay at his flat, but Ilie stabbed him in what police called an “unprovoked” attack before fleeing back to Romania.

He was arrested on his return for a separate robbery in his homeland, and was jailed for three years.

He was extradited to the UK to face a murder charge, and was given a life sentence yesterday after being found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.
