Girl who killed husband spared death sentence

A Sudanese teenager, facing death by hanging for killing her husband when he tried to rape her, has had her sentence quashed by an appeal court.

A campaign to overturn the sentence of Noura Hussein, 19, was backed by model Naomi Campbell and actress Emma Watson.

Ms Hussein, who says she acted in self-defence in a forced marriage, was convicted of murder by an Islamic religious court in Sudan last month.

But the appeals court overturned the ruling, jailing her for five years for manslaughter instead.
