Thatcher’s final years

SIR – May I add a more direct comment to Sir Julian Seymour’s letter (June 25) regarding Lady Thatcher’s final years?

Having spent some time with her during her visit to the UAE, some years after her resignation, I can personally assure Sir John Major that the great lady was not suffering any form of dementia (report, June 23), and only criticised his premiership because she saw the hash he was making – squandering her legacy and kowtowing to the EU.

It is shameful of Sir John to denigrate one of our greatest prime ministers in order to cover his own shortcomings.
