An estuary airport yet

-

SIR – Boris Johnson knows his Londoners. He was a highly regarded Mayor. No doubt he has many faults, but none so gross as those post-war MPS content with abject surrender to the EU for 50 years.

MPS can whistle into the wind over Heathrow, but the disregarded Londoners can run consecutive joint legal cases until they get Mr Johnson’s estuary airport hub instead, with all aircraft ascending and descending over the sea, where the only residents are fish.

It isn’t impossibly expensive and it will have to be done in short order now. The Chinese were ready to pay for it all years ago. It could be started tomorrow.

If you went to the country on this issue, the vote would be in favour of Mr Johnson’s estuary hub. Lord Walsingham

SIR – RAF Lyneham would be no good as the site of a new London airport (Letters, June 27). It was closed as an airfield in 2011 as part of a previous round of defence cuts and the site is now a technical training school for the Army.

The airfield has been rendered unusable for flying, with much of it covered by a solar farm. Phil Mobbs
