Majority of students object to free speech on campus
The extent of the “snowflake” generation’s hostility to free speech on campus has been revealed in a Yougov poll which shows that the majority of students want controversial speakers to be prevented from speaking.
More than two-thirds (68 per cent) said talks by Holocaust deniers should not be allowed to take place; 64 per cent said they would ban speakers who believe that terrorist attacks in the UK can be justified; and one in 10 said that speakers who want the Royal family abolished should be no-platformed.
The “snowflake” generation is a disparaging term applied to young people perceived to be intolerant of disagreement.
