We women over 40 have wised-up to what matters...

-

We can all give a huge sigh of relief that a study has shown men start appreciating women’s intelligence once they pass 40.

It’s comforting to know that, as we age, looks cease to matter nearly as much and, like classic cars, our complexities are a source of infinite delight.

Oh, what’s this? It’s not the women who are over 40, but the men.

I presume that means they still want to chase a twentysomething piece of skirt, but only if she’s wearing blue stockings as well.

There are exceptions, of course. Oxbridge-educated Rachel Weisz is 48 and has both brains and beauty in immoderation. Daniel Craig popped the question in 2011, when he was 43, and had presumably realised slinky young Bond girls, unlike diamonds, weren’t forever.

Here in the real world, women d’un certain âge have to graft harder to keep up appearances, which is ironic as we’re clever enough to know it shouldn’t matter.
