Archbishop in sex abuse cover-up may avoid jail

An Australian archbishop was yesterday jailed for 12 months for covering-up child sex abuse, but could avoid prison after a court ordered he be assessed for home detention.

Philip Wilson, 67, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide, was found guilty in May of concealing abuse by Jim Fletcher, the paedophile priest, during the Seventies in New South Wales by failing to report allegations against him.
