Potholes ahead

-

SIR – It is not only learner drivers who need instruction and testing on negotiating potholes (report, July 2).

I have been a qualified driver for 60 years and now, for the first time, have to be very careful to avoid damage to my car from potholes. In the absence of any clear guidance, I drive slowly on almost all roads with which I am not familiar, especially at night. At times I have to slow to 5mph and weave my way around the obstacles.

Under the last Labour government we were treated to road signs obscured by vegetation. Now, with the Conservatives, we have potholes. Bruce Chanter
