Escaped emu caught after causing traffic jam

Part of a busy dual carriageway was closed yesterday after an emu escaped on to the busy road.

According to reports, the creature was running around the A31 in the New Forest dangerously and causing traffic problems.

Traffic was last night slowed in both directions near Ringwood as a result.

The road was shut eastbound over a mile after the bird broke free.

It is not known where it escaped from, but by yesterday evening the emu was caught and delays had started to ease.
