Police hold man, 72, after sex attack at Wimbledon

A 72-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at Wimbledon.

He was detained by security staff at the All England Club during the day’s tennis matches before being arrested by police. The alleged incident took place about 6pm yesterday within the grounds of the club, but not courtside, police said. A spokesman added that he was taken into custody at a south London police station and later released pending further inquiries.

Police and the club refused to say if the arrested man was a member of staff at SW19 or a spectator.

They also refused to say exactly where the alleged attack happened.
