Auctioneer stunned by rare Beatles find

-

An extremely rare copy of a Beatles record has sold at auction for almost £3,000 after it turned up in a charity shop in Norfolk.

The first-press stereo recording of the band’s 1963 album Please Please Me was found by auctioneer Steve Tyman in a box of other vinyls.

Mr Tyman said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he came across the LP, which was brought in by a member of staff at St Nicholas Hospice.

The 42-year-old co-owner of Methwold Auction, Norfolk, said he decided to call an expert friend to get a second opinion: “He informed me it was the holy grail of Beatles records.”
